Reflection on John 3:16-21
[scripture reading reprinted below]
Since the New Testament was originally written in the Greek language, they have several words to describe Love – at least 5! Unlike the English Language, we only have that one single word – Love. It takes more explaining through adjectives and other word meanings to accomplish this.
The type of love Jesus mostly spoke of and demonstrated and expects us to mimick, is called AGAPE. This is selfless love. Just like when a friend lays down his very life for another. This is the kind of love when you think of others before yourself.
This type of Love requires action, rather than a feeling! Like the action in John 3:16 – For God so LOVED the world, that God sent the only Son, that whosoever believed in Him – in Jesus, would have everlasting life.
When you allow… when you invite Christ into your heart you begin to understand this type of love – this Agape Love. It is yours the moment you accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
You don’t have to wait for a specific day or date, not even a specific event to do so… you can do this the moment you read this!
Emmanuel is one of the many names to describe Christ – God With Us…. And trust me, He is with us, to this very moment… loving us and caring about us. Waiting and watching for us to demonstrate this love.
Rev. David Pettitt.
